She enunicated this SO PERFECTLY and completely in a single tweet. A whole informed essay in a single tweet. Your fave could never!
Same problem we have with cops. Police are more likely to have certain characteristics and personality flaws not because becoming a cop makes you that way, although that may amplify the effects, but rather, men with these problems gravitate to the position. That’s why so many bullies end up becoming cops
You pointing out the cops means I need to point out; Female bullies tend to go into nursing! A position that puts them in power, and gives them control over people. If you knew a girl in highschool who was just an awful human being but thought she was great? Chances are she went into nursing.
I think one thing that a lot of Addams Family fans forget is that for the family, goth wasn’t about being gloomy and sad or bitter and cynical at all. Morticia was always gazing out at rainy days and declaring, “how beautiful a day it is!” or saying that “black is so much more cheerful!” because they found joy in their dark aesthetic. Wednesday was curious and sharp-minded and very clearly exercised and expressed her personal sense of power and self through things like her interest in weaponry and true crime - in the original series and comics, she was always dancing and playing with her brother. Edgy Wednesday didn’t happen until the 90s reboot, and well, it was the 90s. Gloomy grunge and artful sadness were in at the time. And let’s not even talk about Gomez, who was so full of life and love for his family that he’d often break into song or dip Morticia in the kitchen for an old-fashioned kiss. The Addams worked so well because they were healthy, happy, loving and goth. They were a perfect example of indulging in an aesthetic without letting it become toxic or consuming their lives.
I will repeat this on every Addams Family post until the day I die:
The central joke of the Addams family isn’t that they’re dark and weird, it’s that everyone else is hung on on how dark and weird they are despite them being the only happy functioning family unit on screen.
not to be a wet blanket or anything but like. when your ironic humor gets to the point where its indistinguishable from the real views of actual shitty people and you accidentally platform those actual shitty people bc you think theyre being ironic.. maybe its not good humor! maybe its time to dial it back a little bit!
remember when you could say stuff like “the earth is round” or “nazis are bad” and be absolutely certain everyone who heard you would agree
remember when you could say “we shouldn’t attack children with tear gas” and be absolutely certain everyone who heard you would agree
remember when you could say “you shouldn’t let your children catch fatal, preventable diseases” and be absolutely certain everyone who heard you would agree
Ok this is cute but this octopus is living in a brick…
Stop polluting our oceans
This brick probably is just junk but it’s worth noting that sometimes “pollution” seen in footage like this isn’t actually garbage. There’s a lot of organizations that take old cars, ships, etc and strip all the paint and other harmful components and then place it in the bottom of the sea for new coral reefs to grow on. Besides that there will unfortunately always be pollution and I would rather it be a brick an octopus can make a home from than plastic bags that sea creatures will die from eating.
Artificial reefs are pretty cool!
They’re often used to provide habitats for corals, fish, and other marine life where the natural ocean floor has been eroded or disturbed by human use. They can be purpose-made like those reef balls up there, or they can be made out of recycled objects like cinderblocks.
While not all human-made materials are safe for reef use (tires used to be a popular choice, but then it was discovered that not only do they not stay put, they tend to leech toxins), sometimes marine life doesn’t actually care- they adapt to what we put in the water. A good example of that is the Rigs-to-Reef program, which takes offshore oil platforms and decommissions them by turning them into artificial reefs. While oil platforms are in use, sea life congregates around them, so instead of abandoning these platforms or removing them, which would disrupt what has become the “new normal” for these animals, they’re toppled and coral grows on them.
Anyways, I realize that I’ve totally derailed the awesome octopus and its teddy bear, but I just think that artificial reefs are neat!
do you ever think about how “competition leads to innovation” is a goddamn lie and how much more we could have accomplished by now if we approched science and technology and all such related fields with the goal of cooperation instead
do you ever think about how the first person to walk on the moon did so as an American and not as a human being
